Born in south-central Montana,I centralize my work around a coalescence of influences. Horses, and at rare times, other animals, provide the life and the carriers of a thought; math hearkens to the concise and historical nature of measurements and tradition. The form of the environment, land, and plants give shape within each piece of work, and lines and colors speak to the processes found in geological time: erosion, compaction, and layers.
My process involves a series of experimentation with definitive elements, such as an exactness to numbers and realistic form. The experimental process comes in the develop of the painting, from first lying down a base of colors from which to work, and then a continual problem-solving process to incorporate that initial stage with the following actions: developing the composition, representing ideas, and choosing and painting the living elements. Each step is very much dependent on the others.
Throughout the variety of changes in life, constants for me have been the outside world, horses, and noticing and creating art. My work has been exhibited in shows across the United States and resides in varied private collections.
