Pink Petals on the Beartooth Tundra
At 10,000+ feet of elevation,
a person moves slowly.
Thin air,
steep climbs,
and route planning require this.
And so too do the little delights,
the streams of melting snowfields,
ground-hugging plants,
sheltering from the winds,
and the big views,
the peaks,
the drainages,
and the crumbling, sheer, rock faces.
And when you stop,
to look around,
to check the map,
to breathe,
you glance at your feet.
Blooming by the grace of time and nature,
to shine for a bit and then to rest,
little pillows of pink.
